Happy New Year?

2 min read

Well it's a clear and significant element of truth that pretty much all can agree about 2020. It sucked. And without going into all the dreary and annoying details regarding the Pandemic causing so many problems and the dumb ass Orange Republican Pathogen Mutation inhabiting the White House, it comes down to a simple concept. I'm not the biggest fan of change at times but it has come to my attention that declaring Happy New Year for 2021 is not a realistic notion. At the beginning of 2020 we all said Happy New Year and look what we got for it. A shit basket. So, as a sign of optimism I offer this advice. Don't say Happy New Year for next year. It makes far better sense in this day and age with all the turmoil and general chaos to change that particular phrase to 'Hopeful New Year' or 'Better New Year'. Concentrating on that idea is far more sensible and then later we can see about the "Happy" part following later, hopefully. So remember kiddies, 'Hopeful New Year' or 'Better New Year'. If you declare 'Happy New Year' for 2021 then you have more optimism than I. After 2020, mine's more guarded thank you very much.

"What do you mean my investments are taking a hit?"
"What do you mean I should rethink my geopolitical perspective associated with zoning laws?"
"What do you mean I have an anger fetish for Adora that secretly translates to an attraction to She-Ra?"
"What do you mean The Bachelor is a bunch of crap?"

I mean..."what...?"

From this entry, it'll be 20 days until lift-off for my 13th NDK. I really like the NDK more since the Fanime abandoned the Art Show after nearly 20 years for an Art Gallery where no fan art can be shown or sold. I guess the increased price of Artist Alley Tables ($200 per table) made the Art Show less of a viable revenue generator. With all the changes I've seen in the past 40 years, including the Art Show changing hands, I'm not too surprised that, eventually, it would fade away sooner or later. But, even though that's a sad ending, there's still the NDK Art Show. Now that's a top-notch crew. Yeah, they know what they're doing indeed. A well-oiled Art Show machine. Even when they can only give one side of a display rack it's just fine to work with. Even having been absent for nearly 7 years and returning in 2016, I can still remember how great it was even when they moved from the Holiday Inn to the Marriott Denver Tech Center and then to the Sheraton Downtown Denver. I'm always happy to display my art in their Art Show. And this year along with my usual fan art I'll be showing off some of my OC (non-anime) art. Finally, I'll get to show larger poster-sized prints so my own characters can be seen better. I'm really looking forward to hanging up my Alien Art with a better focus on them (mostly female characters) so fans can see a bit more than only fan art from me. :D

It was a very long time after Tolkien finished The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books that they later became astounding motion picture cinema. I haven't read the books yet myself, but I'm sure I'll make time for them later.
I've seen a lot of movies in my time (probably close to a thousand by now, I think) and many of them were based on different sources. From an idea discussed among colleagues in a bar, a short story or essay, Toys we played with as children, and yes of all things, even a board game. That last one was a real surprise considering all the effort put into the 2012 movie Battleship. It didn't receive a favorable review from the good people (as if) of Rotten Tomatoes, but it didn't stop it from being made and watched by millions. The fact remains that it was made none-the-less. Taking that into account it provided me with a perspective that makes me eager to see if other ideas will come to light in a movie. There are favorite books out there I still really like and would make great movies (if they have the right writers, director, and etc) Firstly I know that Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures would be a wonder to see whether as a live-action or animation movie. I've read all the books more than once and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves humor and adventure. The next would be Anne Logston's Shadow series. A movie about Shadow the elf (Nightshade or Shady to her friends) would be so much fun since she's such a sauntering, intelligent, lovable, clever, and saucy elf. And yes I've read all those books as well. Steven Brust's stories of Vladamir Taltos would have me as excited as waiting on the next MCU movie. The Taltos stories are very absorbing and never boring in the slightest. And lastly, it would be a real treat if one day there was a Harry Harrison's The Stainless Steel Rat movie. There's so much potential from books to become entertaining movies now that motion picture technology has progressed to truly startling levels. Like Battle Angel Alita. I've read most of the source material but was very pleased with how it translated to the silver screen. The only part that is hardest to endure sometimes is being patient. But, it's just a matter of time, so all we have to do is wait.
